What is a Restorative Filling?

Restorative Fillings are utilized to preserve tooth structure by treating cavities caused by dental caries or repairing minor fractures. Our practice utilizes modern, metal-free composite restorations. These tooth-colored resins provide a durable, biocompatible bond that strengthens the tooth while maintaining a natural, seamless aesthetic.

Understanding the Procedure

The procedure focuses on the removal of decayed or compromised enamel and dentin. Once the cavity is sanitized, the composite material is layered and chemically bonded to the tooth structure. This “adhesive dentistry” approach requires less removal of healthy tooth structure compared to traditional silver amalgams.

Clinical Protocols for Your Safety

Pre-Operative Care

We use digital diagnostics to identify the depth of the decay. Local anesthesia is administered to ensure a completely painless experience.

During Your Appointment

After removing the decay, we utilize a specialized curing light to harden the composite resin layers. The restoration is then contoured and polished to match your natural bite (occlusion).

Post-Operative Recovery

Unlike older materials, composite fillings harden instantly, allowing you to eat shortly after the numbness wears off. Minor sensitivity to thermal changes is normal for a few days as the tooth acclimates to the new restoration.
